Armathwaite Signal Box is 125 years old today
The iconic Settle to Carlisle railway line in the North of England has many landmarks. Along its 66 mile (106km) route, there is much to see, including the world famous Ribblehead Viaduct. However, there is one more modest, but particularly colourful sight. Armathwaite Signal Box, just 10 miles (16km) south of Carlisle, is marking a significant milestone today (16 July). The brightly painted Midlands Railway “Type 2b” signal box is the only one remaining to be finished in the 125 year old “Chrome Yellow and Midland Brown” livery.
