Portugal: unions and private firms pick at €20 rail pass

Last month, the prime minister of Portugal announced the launch of a new 20 euro monthly rail ticket, dubbed the Green Rail Pass. The deal will allow passengers to get on nearly all urban, regional, and inter-regional trains run by Portuguese Railways (CP), as well as inter-city networks, for the cut-price fare. But some rail groups, including Portuguese unions, say the reduced ticket could cause more problems than it solves.
