UK: one strike off, one ballot on

A damaging strike, affecting London to Edinburgh trains, has been called off at the last minute. The dispute, which would have seen members of the drivers’ union take action every weekend from September to November has been averted. An eleventh-hour deal was reached between the union ASLEF, and the passenger train operator LNER, a front branding for the UK Government’s Operator of Last Resort (effectively the Department for Transport) which manages the service.
