Gaffe or graft: why did Spain fire the president of Adif?
Spain’s transport minister has fired Ángel Contreras, the president of Adif, after he spent just nine and a half months at the head of Spain’s state-owned rail manager. The decision, according to the minister, was designed to “boost the company’s management” following a summer of multiple railway incidents. But there are still questions over Contreras’ links to a COVID-era corruption scandal and the general reliability of Spain’s top transport brass.
