Portugal awards €1.95bn contract for Porto high-speed line
“There is life beyond the budget.” That’s what Prime Minister António Costa stated as Portugal marked a major milestone in its high-speed rail ambitions, awarding the concession for a new rail track between Porto and Oiã to the LusoLav consortium. Part of a high-speed project to connect Porto and Lisbon, the tender for the initial section was set at a massive 1.95 billion euros. Essentially, Portuguese rail expansion is about to start catching up with its neighbours.
