ÖBB, ČD fined €49m by EU for blocking private rail expansion
‘Collusively timed wagon sales,’ ‘the existence of the cartel’… The EU’s executive has fined Czechia’s state-run rail company České dráhy (‘ČD’) and Austria’s ÖBB 48.7 million euros for breaching the bloc’s stringent competition rules. ČD and ÖBB, the Commission says, colluded to prevent the privately owned new entrant, RegioJet, from accessing used wagons, thus making it harder for it to compete against the state-backed companies.
