After the flood: DB to electrify Eifel line at high speed
Deutsche Bahn (DB) is continuing to green Germany’s regional rail network: it’s announced that it will start electrifying part of its Eifelstrecke railway network, which connects the Cologne area with Trier via the scenic Eifel region. In a bid to do away with diesel trains along the line, DB is adapting 56 bridges and ten tunnels to make room for the new overhead lines. With parts of the work set for completion by 2026, the cost of the project is estimated at around 500 million euros. And it’s taken a tragedy to allow the work to move so fast…
