Novi Sad station collapse: Serbian construction minister resigns, President threatens protesters
Serbia’s construction minister has resigned days after a concrete canopy collapsed at a newly renovated railway station in Novi Sad, killing 14 people and seriously injuring three others. However, the minister denied his guilt, saying that he would “do his best” to spotlight the responsibility of other politicians – including from his party – for the accident. Meanwhile, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić arrived in Novi Sad overnight in a bid to quell ongoing violent protests triggered by the tragedy, warning that those behind both the tragedy at the station and the demonstrations would feel the full force of the law.
