PKP Intercity launches Wi-Fi service on Pendolino trains
Polish long-distance rail operator PKP Intercity launched Wi-Fi onboard service on its Pendolino ED250 high-speed train branded as Express InterCity Premium. It is the first unit of this type equipped with a wireless internet connection. The entire Pendolino fleet of 20 trainsets will be covered with Wi-Fi by November 2019.
The equipment installation was provided by Konstal company, Alstom’s subsidiary in Poland, in accordance with a contract signed in August. The unveiled trainset was successfully tested. “The trail rides of the first Pendolino with installed Wi-Fi equipment showed that the applied system solutions are fully functional. We are very happy because thanks to this we can further improve the quality of our services”, CEO of PKP Intercity Marek Chraniuk noted.
Wi-Fi on PKP Intercity fleet
Currently, PKP Intercity provides Wi-Fi connection in 206 passenger coaches and 41 electric multiple units, including 20 Pesa Dart, 20 Stadler Flirt and one Pendolino set. The Wi-Fi network is expected to be installed on 10 Pendolino trains in summer 2019. The remaining ten units will be equipped with a wireless connection by November 2019. “Further installation works in subsequent ED250 sets will run according to the agreement in such a way that these vehicles will be able to serve the planned connections, in accordance with the timetable:, Marek Chraniuk specified.
