Hong Kong High Speed Railway ready for passenger service
The Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Railway (HSR) is ready for passenger service. The Hong Kong government announced that the trial operations are completed succesfully.
The rail section connects Hong Kong to the Mainland, and 25.000 kilometer network of high-speed rail in China. The high speed line has a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour and will be open for passenger service in September this year.
Travelling times for passengers will be a lot shorter with this new connections. A trip from Guangzhou to Hongkong will take about 48 minutes, where it now takes two hours. Travellling from Shenzhen tot Hongkong will only take fifteen minutes, three times shorter than the travelling time now.
For the last nine years MTR has been responsible for the planning, design and construction of the complex project. At this moment more than 700 personnel are currently working on the final preparations for the high speed line. The railway project is worth 8,5 billion Euros.
