The consortium led by Bombardier Transportation was chosen as a preferred bidder for design, build and supply vehicles for Cairo monorail in Egypt. The total project is valued at around 3 billion Euros while the Bombardier share is worth 1.2 billion Euros.

The Cairo monorail project will be constructed and equipped by Bombardier Transportation together with its Egyptian partners – Orascom Construction and the Arab Contractors. The light rapid transit system will have a total length of 96 kilometres and consist of two lines: the 54-kilometre route will connect East Cairo with New Administrative City while the 42-kilometre route will link 6th October City to Giza. The monorail vehicles will be manufactured at the Bombardier’s facility in Derby, the United Kingdom. Moreover, the consortium may obtain the other deal with a potential value of about 1.1 billion Euros to operate and maintain the future network.

Innovia Monorail

Bombardier Transportation is developing monorail solutions since the end of the 1980s. The company’s product range includes three generations of the monorail systems: Innovia Monorail 100, Innovia Monorail 200 and Innovia Monorail 300. The systems were installed primarily in the United States (Tampa International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Jacksonville and Las Vegas). The supplier also provided monorail solutions in Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Thailand and China.
