Trenitalia orders more Frecciarossa high-speed trains
Italy’s national rail operator Trenitalia has ordered additional 14 Frecciarossa 1000 high-speed trains. The entire batch is valued at 575 million Euros. The order will be fulfilled by Hitachi Rail and Bombardier Transportation.
The Frecciarossa (Red Arrow) 1000 trains, also known as ETR 1000, are the fastest and the quietest units on the Italian railway network. The 200-metre trains are able to speed up to 360 kilometres per hour. They run at a regular speed of 300 kilometres per hour. Each vehicle has a capacity for around 460 passengers. The trains are also equipped with a meeting room and bistro area. The vehicles are being produced in Italy, at the local facilities of Hitachi Rail and Bombardier Transportation.
Frecciarossa 1000 trains
Currently, Trenitalia operates 50 trains of this type. They were entered into service in June 2015. The Frecciarossa 1000 vehicles connect all major cities in Italy travelling in the north-south directions. The trains serve two main high-speed routes: from Turin and Venice to Salerno via Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples. The maintenance is provided by Spanish rolling stock company CAF.
